Let’s Declare Independence from Clutter – Kitchen Utensil Edition

Share Post!

By Jackie Leffner

This week we are continuing our focus on independence and are moving into the kitchen! The kitchen is one of our professional organizers’ favorite places to start in a home because it is a space that families come to gather, share a meal, and have a wonderful time. So, let’s make it organized so that making and prepping the meals is easy and stress-free.

On our professional organizing team, we have experts in kitchen organization that can help transform a kitchen from top to bottom. We are going to give you a little insight into their process today by giving you some DIY steps for your utensils, but we are always here to help you if the kitchen is an area of your home that you’d like expert guidance on.

The kitchen utensil drawer is one of the most highly cluttered areas in a kitchen. You know what we’re talking about right? You try to open it, but it gets stuck because there’s something in the way – so you need to reach in, try to move things around just to open the drawer. If that is you, just know that is okay. It is where so many of us start! So, let’s help you transform this space so you can open that drawer freely and know exactly what’s in there.

Now, before we get into some ways to organize it, this blog series is focused on gaining independence from your clutter. So, you need to follow the same steps as in our junk drawer series! Pull everything out, sort, decide what is trash/donate, and only keep the utensils you use on a regular basis (and a suitable number of those – do you need 13 spatulas? 😉).

Once you’ve decluttered and know what items you need – here are some awesome drawer organizers that can help ensure you know which spot in the drawer each items goes. Hopefully, this helps to make sure your drawer opens every time without getting stuck!

Drawer Organizers are not all made equal! Depending on your drawer and the utensils you have, regular customizable organizers might be the best choice for you. Or you may need to try diagonal organizers. We’ve linked our amazon favorites above! If you try it, take a photo and tag us on social media! We’d love to see how you’re putting our advice into action!

Once you’re done decluttering and organizing, it is important to remember that a large part of maintaining an organized kitchen utensil drawer is maintenance. Our friends at the Home Edit always encourage us to ask ourselves – do we need this? Do I already have a tool that does this task? We’re not saying you can’t ever treat yourself or upgrade, just make sure you are decluttering & replacing an item rather than just adding it to the drawer.

Not sure you can tackle this alone? Reach out to schedule your complimentary consultation with one of our professional organizers today! We would love to help spark joy in your everyday life by transforming your home into functional, beautiful spaces, one area at a time.
