Does laundry feel like a never-ending task in your home? Try to keep the door closed to the laundry room so you do not have to think about it? Do you have kids running around in the summer and changing outfits 100 times a day? Since you spend more time in your laundry room than you would prefer, it should be a space that works for you! If you have a smaller laundry room, it can be so much more than a “dirty clothes in, clean clothes out” space.
These tips will help turn YOU into a professional organizer for your laundry room! If after reading these steps, you would like a Meat and Potatoes Organizing expert’s help – schedule your complimentary consultation! We LOVE helping turn people’s dreams into reality. Let us work together to turn that dreadful task into a peaceful organized space.
We always recommend prioritizing a functional layout. You want to make the space practical and ensure you have everything easily accessible when you need it. Below are some items we have used on our projects to help make that functional, beautiful, organized space:
- Drying Racks & Rods – hang and drip-dry clothes without taking up space or creating clutter. You can also use them to help sort clothes for different rooms making your put-away process more efficient.
- Ironing Board Storage – Conceal your ironing board to save space – get creative with the space in your laundry room. Where can you hide that ironing board?
- Behind the Door Shelves – Use organizers that hang behind the door to store laundry soaps, brushes, and other items.
- Folding Station – Stop folding laundry on your living room floor & start folding it clean right out of the dryer. If you have the space, we highly recommend building cabinets with a countertop for folding. This creates a stylish space for your washer and dryer, and provides storage and space for folding making your laundry room your 1-stop-shop for all things laundry.
- Bin Storage – Do not be afraid of bins. Visual clutter is real, and it gets rid of your peaceful space. Have different bins for items such as “clothes to put away” or “mismatched socks.” Those bins will help keep you organized.
All the tips above are a fantastic way to get you started to be organized in your laundry room. Remember to check out our other blogs about the difference between decluttering & organizing as well – because there might be some decluttering that needs to happen in that laundry room before you can fully call it an “organized space” in your home.
